Traditional Dance in West Kalimantan (Culture in West Kalimantan)

Many dance in our country, Indonesia. And each region has a different dance. In West Kalimantan there are so many traditional dances, like zapin, uut danum, pingan, jonggan, etc. We know, that traditional dance has a prupose or function. And we must know that each traditional dance has prupose or function of different too.

Zapin dance, usually zapin dance to the community of West Kalimantan is a social dance in society, as the media to tell happiness in relatioship. This dance is instructive and entertaining. Musical retinue consists of 2 main tools, those are gambus and 3 marwas. Several types of zapin dance in West Kalimantan like zapin tembung and zapin fan.

Uut Danum dance, is typical of war dance ethnic group from Uut Danum, Dayak. This Dance showed us their agility and alertness in the face of the enemy. Usually this dance is shown on special events. This dance is very hard to learn because it uses mandau as properties.

Pingan dance, is a single dance on the Dayak Mualang, Sekadau. Now this dance still as a dance to entertaiment for sustenance/ luck/ food given by God. This dance use pinang as property.


Jonggan dance, is a social dance from Dayak community. This dance can still be found enjoyed visually. The dance tell us about joy and happiness of young people in the Dayak assosiation. in this dance the guest that who come are generally invited to dance together with them.
